Porcelain or Stoneware: A Color, Size and Pattern Scarf to Study

The objective of this three-day workshop is to develop an understanding of how twills will work with yarn types, colors, and sizes can affect the patterns we choose. During our time together we will explore the use of these three elements (color, size and pattern) to create a useful resource and beautiful twill scarf. Our time will be filled with weaving, color play and the planning of pattern interactions. There will be some sharing of looms (to weave 2 optional samples) but most of the work will be done on the loom you have. If you are renting a loom, you will complete the project in the allotted time.

BEGINNING WEAVING
A 7-week course (1 day per week)  gives you the opportunity to try weaving for the first time or as a refresher if you have been away from the loom.

We learn the language of weaving along with how to dress a loom, read a weaving draft and how our hands and feet work together to make beautiful cloth.  The loom is provided in the studio.

Fee: $200 plus $50 materials fee

Predicting Color for Fiber

This seminar, one-day or three-day workshop is focused on learning the basics of color for fibers. Different than paint or viewing the computer screen we will review the definitions of colors on the color wheel and what they mean. We will explore how our eye mixes color and learn a few tricks to predict what our warp and weft will do when crossed. We will practice these skills by first creating a color wheel and then a color palette from an image.

You the Designer-Planning Your Next Project

Where to begin when designing the next weaving project? How to make decisions? How choose colors, structures, number of shafts and finishing? These questions and many more will be shared along with stratagies for creating that dream project. We will take the opportunity to design a project that you will have the confidence to make on our own. This class is a basic understanding of how to plan a weaving project for 2, 3 or 4 shaft based looms. In addition we will explore optional extensions for multiple projects on one warp. 3-hour or 1-day.
